5 Ways to Use Twitter More Efficiently

Bloggers and other users may occasionally find it convenient to automatically distribute their content. Here are some popular methods I have found for automatically updating your content to Twitter.

WordPress plugins that help you automatically Tweet on Twitter

Tweetily by  is a plugin that automatically Tweets your blog posts or pages to your Twitter account. Set the time, number of Tweets, the type of content and Tweetily does the rest.

Tweet Old Post by Ajay Matharu is a popular plugin that keeps your old blog posts alive by Tweeting about them. You pick the time and number of Tweets and the plugin goes to work bringing your blog more traffic from Twitter.

Tweetable by Matt Harzewski is a plugin which can be set to automatically Tweet your blog posts when they are published. Tweetable includes a customizable widget to display your latest Tweets on your blog and adds functions that turn the WordPress admin into a Twitter client.

WP to Twitter by Joe Dolson automatically posts to Twitter when you update your WordPress blog.  WP to Twitter offers features such as customizable Tweet templates and support for Google Analytics.  A pro version with additional features is also available.

Use Buffer to queue your status updates and automagically share all your best content throughout the day. You can schedule Buffer to post to Twitter for you. Use it nearly anywhere with native iPhone and Android apps and extensions for Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Opera web browsers. Buffer works great within twitter.com and integrates with many other popular applications.

Why Use it?
  • Buffer spaces out you messages so you don’t risk overwhelming your followers
  • Use the Buffer queue to schedule your posts for the best times to share.
  • Use Buffer to measure your social impact with comprehensive analytics.
  • Built-in link shortening and connection to custom bit.ly domains.
  • Free accounts can earn more buffer space with simple referrals.
  • I use it. It must be good :-)

A Note on Automation:

Automation can be used for good or evil. Too much automation ruins the user experience and could inadvertently create messages that resemble spam.

Twitter has a helpful support page detailing their Automation Rules and Best Practices.

When in doubt, review Twitter’s Rules before using any automation.
